Pajo's at the Wharf
Steveston, BC

604.272.1588
Pajo's has been serving "the best fresh fish and chips" from the Wharf since 1985. With four locations, the popularity of the choice of fried cod, salmon, or halibut is evident. Each meal is served in paper cones which are slotted directly into the specially designed tables. Enjoy your meal while watching swans swim past the dock or, after indulging in the crisp fries and "perfectly battered" fish, roam the "charming village streets" or have a "breezy day of fun" at one of the nearby nature park. Slurp & Swirl Wine and Oyster Celebration
Vancouver, BC

877.669.JOES (5637)
More than just a wine tasting and oyster sampling, Joe Forte's Slurp & Swirl is a celebration of the shellfish for which the Pacific Northwest is famed. Shuckers from across the continent compete while people pare wines and oysters and try to win raffle prizes. Tickets can run you $100, but the event is a charitable one. With "groovy music" and "tons of fresh-shucked oysters", the event is gastronomical delight, not to mention that it's "great people-watching." Read more.

Bread and Circuses
Winnipeg, MB

204.477.4555
Homemade bread, soups, and salads, and a warm, friendly staff make it easy to see why this cafe is so popular, particularly as it is "environmentally conscious without being preachy". Bread and Circuses roasts fresh turkey daily on site, and the "Big Top Turkey" sandwich is the signature dish, though "high quality" baked goods like chocolate chip banana loaf don't hurt either. The goods are made from certified organic ingredients, making them vegetarian-friendly (except for the turkey!), as well as conscientiously made and undeniably delicious.

Salt Tasting Room
Vancouver, BC

604.633.1912
Wind your way past the tourists in Gastown to a side street called Blood Alley, and look for the salt shaker flag that hangs above the door. A "great place to end up for a glass of wine and a nibble," the Salt Tasting Room "keeps it simple" with a menu that's "really just a blackboard in the back of the room." Choose from 10 artisinal cheeses, 10 meats and 10 condiments to create your own gourmet tasting platter, and pair it with a bottle of wine from their "unique and oh-so-fabulous" list. It's amazing what this local eatery does without a kitchen. Read more.
