China Bend Winery

Developing and pouring "natural unsulfited wines made from organically grown grapes," China Bend Winery showcases their wines as the "ultimate expression of health food." Not only do they have "organic wines, but they also grow organic veggies." Boehm's Candy Store
Issaquah

425.392.6652
Located about 20 minutes outside of Seattle, Boehm's Candy Store "is a unique spot" that offers "homemade candy in an interesting location." The candy shop and manufacturing plant are housed "in an Edelweiss Chalet in the Issaquah foothills." There is also an alpine chapel "built as a replica of an Austrian chapel." Boehm's boasts "beautiful grounds and absolutely the very best candies made." In fact, this is "one of only three places in the U.S. that continues to hand dip their chocolates." Boehm's is the place to visit when you're in the mood to "enjoy over 150 different chocolate goodies, wander beautiful grounds, and explore an alpine chapel built as a tribute to mountain climbers." Seattle

206.684.4075
This urban park "features a sundial and a beautiful view of Seattle." Open to the public since 1975, Gas Works Park comprises a 20-acre point on Lake Union. A large play barn in the park was formerly an exhauster-compressor building, and is now home to "a maze of brightly painted machinery." There is also "a big hill popular for flying kites." Kinetic Skulpture Race
Port Townsend

360.379.4972
While kinetic skulpure racing has its roots in Ferndale, California, this annual race began in 1983 in Port Townsend, which makes it the second oldest in the circuit. This Victorian seaport town nestled between forests, the Olympic Mountains, and the Strait of Juan de Fuca, saves an entire October weekend for races, parades, festivals, and more. A kinetic skulpture is "a human-powered, artistically-enhanced vehicle that must go through mud, float on water, and transverse hilly neighborhoods." In other words, you "take a generous portion of adventure, mix in some garage engineering and creative artistic license, then stir vigorously amongst enthusiastic fans, and you have a recipe for kinetic sculpture racing." Pegasus Coffee House
Bainbridge Island

206.842.6725
Not far from Seattle, the birthplace of Starbucks, Pegasus Coffee House "is the best 'find' amid all the look-alike plastic coffee and food places that are everywhere." It's "situated right off the marina of Bainbridge Island." To get there, "you ride a short ferry across the Puget Sound." The vibe is "old-timey and quaint" which makes it a "natural hangout for locals and visitors." The coffee is "roasted right on the island, the staff cares about you, and the food is inexpensive and homemade." Just look for the "beautiful, old vine-covered brick building," and don't miss the live music Thursday through Sunday nights. Read more.
