Christophe's on the Green
Vergennes
802.877.3413
To fully enjoy Vermont's bounty, you "can't go wrong" with the three-course prix fixe special at Christophe's on the Green. Basque native Chef Christophe Lissarrague labels his cuisine "innovative country French," infusing local organic produce, natural meats, and fresh fish. Save room for the dessert sampler plate "mmm mmmm!" Splurge for your choice of three sweet treats--the ginger-infused crème brulee and the trio of petits pots de crème. But don't forget the hand-selected French cheese - it's also worth a taste. Continuing with the rustic French theme, the restaurant's walls feature plates, copper pots, and armoire doors from Christophe's grandmother's farmhouse. Read more.

To be on the shores of Lake Champlain in June is a treat, but for jazz lovers it's a must! For 10 days in early June, "world-renowned artists and local musicians" come to this city in the Green Mountain State to play in various venues from the Flynn Center for the Performing Arts to stages along Church Street Marketplace to tents set up along the shores of Lake Champlain. The Vermont Mozart Festival
Burlington
802.862.7352
Vivid forest green mountains, sapphire-blue skies, and crisp Vermont air provide the extra sensory stimulation for what is truly a celebration of sound and music. The festival "provides mostly outdoor musical experiences," under the stars at venues such as Shelburne Farms, the UVM Show Barn, and aboard the S.S. Champlain. The festival format features 15 concerts and three workshops--usually all sell out. Since 1974, the festival has performed more than 3,000 pieces of Mozart, making it one of the most comprehensive in the country. "Friendly audiences" and a "relaxing yet uplifting atmosphere" make this the "perfect escape from the routine of daily city living." Read more.

Very Small Donut Company
Waitsfield
802.496.4534
In the land of covered bridges lies the Very Small Donut Company offering tiny, tasty, "addictive" treats. The donuts are "small enough that you could eat a stack of three." But don't let the itty-bitty size fool you; these fresh, handmade donuts made in the shop and covered with Vermont maple syrup frosting pack a punch. In addition to donuts, you can get breakfast pastries such as: cinnamon rolls, scones, and cookies. Lunch is served here, too, featuring mouth-watering and jaw-stretching sandwiches served on homemade bread. Insider tip: Bring your own mug for coffee, and they'll throw in a free donut!
Sugarbush Ski Resort Pond Skimming and Reggae Fest
Warren
800.537.8427
Almost as much a springtime tradition as slugging through mud season, Sugarbush Mountain Resort hosts its annual Pond Skimming and Reggae Fest on April Fool's Day. Signaling that spring is around the corner, this festival, going for 40 years strong, is a chance to "soak up the sun, watch, or jump in on the action." Contestants dress up in "wacky costumes" and try to "straight-line a slope over (and often into) the pond on skis or snowboard." Each performance is judged and prizes are awarded. One could win anything from Best Skier/Rider to Best Costume to Best Crash 'n' Splash. Nearby Nectar's provides live reggae and there's a "blow-out barbecue." All of this is just three hours from Boston and about five from New York City. Read more.
